Christmas Break Up - Sun 8th Dec

PLEG Christmas Break Up Sunday 8th December

White Elephant Reserve, Rowsley Valley

Pinkerton Landcare & Environment Group will hold its Christmas Break Up on Sunday 8th December. This will be at the White Elephant Reserve in the Rowsley Valley.

Richard Hartland is happy to have us for the day and he will show us the site, viewing the regeneration of native grasses/shrubs and trees following rabbit control works. This in turn has reduced soil erosion and increased water quality in the Parwan Creek and the Werribee River. These works started in 1982 with rabbit exclusion plots.

There is a barbecue at the site which we can use, and a shelter shed.

People will need to BYO lunch.

It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the changes of the previously bare White Elephant Hill, in the scenic Rowsley Valley.

Directions:

Meet at the entrance to the Parwan Valley just west of the intersection of the Balliang – Bacchus Marsh Road and Rowsley – Exford Road at 10.00am

  • (there is a distinctive Avenue of Honour planting of pencil cypresses on the Rowsley-Exford Road)
  • (see Melway Day Tour Map 611 2F).

From the Avenue of Honour planting we could drive in convoy along Glenmore Road to where Spring Creek crosses the road, a distance of ~10km, not far from the Lady Northcote Recreation Camp

Here we will meet Richard Hartland at 10.30am.
